Artist: Andreas Kaiser Work: Home (2004) Location: Kellerberrin, Western Australia
A cross-cultural exchange between children in three countries, the Home project explores the perceptions of homes and dwellings through the experience of young people. In workshops conducted in both Germany and South Africa, more than 350 primary school students made drawings of their homes, and then interpreted drawings of the other country’s homes as clay sculptures.
In a series of workshops, primary school kids from the Western Australian wheatbelt continued this process by drawing their own homes as a postcard to another culture. They then chose one of the South African houses to interpret as a sculpture, creating hundreds of small clay works that will became the centrepiece of the Home installation in the Kellerberrin gallery.
