Long Distance Relationship is a collaborative exhibition by five young artists who have shared collectively all aspects of its research and development, ranging from the initial conception to the final installation.
There’s no one person to take the credit for the exhibition, Forgetting for a second about who they are as individuals and stepping into a place with no fixed position, the Long Distance Relationship artists are always working in a group, even when it doesn’t appear to be the case.
Having been forced to spend time apart from one another due to their involvement with other projects and engagements both at home and abroad, the artists have attempted to explore the problematic nature of making and exhibiting as an artistic cohort. The work they have produced deals with the concept of distance between places, people and ideas.
Long Distance Relationship is presented by IASKA though its Open Space Program, which features projects by graduate art students and emerging artists.
About the artists: The artists involved in Long Distance Relationship all live and work in Perth and have various scholastic and professional affiliations with the Department of Art, Curtin University of Technology. Their most recent dealings with each other have had to do with the nature of being somewhere else.
