OPEN SPACE Spotlight: Emerging Producer Ned Crossley, Cheryl Wilkins and Sorcha Armstrong-Hetzel

Ned Crossley, Cheryl Wilkins and Sorcha “Sauce” Armstrong-Hetzel are part of SPACED’s emerging producer program, OPEN SPACE. They recently assisted HONF’s M.Haryo Hutomo and Irene Agrivina whilst they were the artists in residence at Arts Narrogin.

Here are some of their highlights from their reflections:

“It was fun working with Haryo and Irene; they were always friendly and exuberant and we enjoyed the numerous opportunities to interact socially and engage in Karaoke battles, at which Haryo excelled.” - Ned

“Visitors to the open studio were invited to experiment with the pigments in water and oil medium and created several works with the pigments. Visitors also had a lot of fun with the simple electronic apparatus the artists had constructed, which produced a range of sounds when a current was passed through the various pigments” - Ned

“I enjoyed participating in the workshop and I found my passion for using raw materials reignited after a hiatus of many years.” - Cheryl

“Attendees expressed in feedback that they had fun, enjoyed the tactile participation, were educated, and inspired. This I believe is a good foundation for community connection and support for next year's residency. - Cheryl

“...this program has been wildly fruitful in not only the exploration of important social and environmental ideas but also in creating very meaningful connections within cultural exchange, social integration and skill sharing.” - Sauce

“Meeting and assisting Haryo and Irene has been a massively enriching for both my own artist’s journey and personal development and also the integration of knowledge, skill and culture into our small rural town and art community. The unique and beautiful mingling of Indonesian cultural ideas of the elements with our Noongar peoples’ ancient knowledge of the land and spirit through the language of colour and technology was an incredible project to be a part of and to participate in.” - Sauce
