DARWIN, AUSTRALIA, 10TH & 11TH AUGUST 2022

Regional // Regional: Festival Alliances across Australia and the Indo-Pacific is an ambitious three-year initiative that addresses the imbalance between urban and regionalAustralian engagement with the Indo-Pacific. The program advances internationalengagement priorities for producers and directors working in regional and remote communities of Australia and the Indo-Pacific.

The initiative will have direct impacts on cultural activity, knowledge sharing, well-being and sustainability in local regional community populations. Outcomes will be shared across Australia and the Indo-Pacific through a major summit and publishing, as well as in new festival programming.

The Regional // Regional Alliance is a group of up to 30 producers and directors from across Australia and the Indo-Pacific coming together to share insights, address barriers and promote opportunities for international engagement. The program is designed to supportcross-cultural collaboration, build connections, and create opportunities for local and global co-curation, co-production, international touring, and new audience engagement strategies.

Ongoing, this will be conducted through bi-monthly digital, hybrid and face-to-face discussions, workshops, creative exchange opportunities and an international summit in 2023. This unique program is designed to seed and support cross-cultural collaborations, to develop and present new programs in regional communities and build ongoing autonomous relationships and capacity, while also attracting and growing new audiences.

Regional // Regional is an initiative of Asialink Arts at the University of Melbourne and is supported by major partners The Yulgilbar Foundation and Circle 5. This project has been assisted by the Australian Government through the Australia Council, its arts funding and advisory body, The Tasmanian Government through Events Tasmania, Creative New Zealand and The Australian High Commission – Vanuatu.
