Know Thy Neighbour #3: Unrestrained Passion for Armadale in the Examiner Newspapers
Olga Cironis and Duncan Wright’s interventional artwork Unrestrained Passion for Armadale has taken over the latest edition of the Examiner Newspapers.
The paper, which has regular distribution across the City of Armadale, City of Gosnells, and the Shire of Serpentine-Jarrahdale, features a double-page spread of portrait shots of residents to the Harrisdale/Piara Waters neighbourhoods, who have spent time with the artists over this month and offered their insight into their relationship with its changing landscape. The artwork, is also one out of a series of interventions that Cironis and Wright have facilitated with the provocation to investigate belonging within the social and cultural landscape of Armadale.
The quote “Unrestrained Passion For Armadale” takes from a reflection made by a local resident when considering with the artists their sense of place within the Armadale community.
Know Thy Neighbour #3: Unrestrained Passion for Armadale #1
If you live within the City of Armadale, City of Gosnells, or the Shire of Serpentine-Jarrahdale, you may have caught a glimpse of this image in yesterday’s edition of the Examiner Newspapers.
Together Cironis and Wright have been meeting with members of the Harrisdale/Piara waters community to gather stories and photo documentation, which will be slowly released over this month and later culminating in an exhibition at Cullity Gallery in February 2023.
Keep your eyes peeled for more mentions in the paper to see what more is to come.
Know Thy Neighbour #3 event: Yabini Kickett in East Fremantle
Birth, in all its forms, is a continuation of a legacy; a narrative about what once was, and glimpse at what could be to come. In a post-settler context of built developments, birth provides an avenue to interrogate our relationship with the changing environment around us. A Child Was Born Here pulls into focus the specific lived experiences in East Fremantle, and how its stories surrounding birth have contributed to the cultural memory of place.
