Artist: Jacky Cheng Work in progress Location: Margaret River, Western Australia Community partner: Margaret River Makers
About the artist: Jacky Cheng is an artist and an art educator based in Broome, Western Australia. Cheng's work is fundamentally about identity and awareness through cultural activities and memories of home; country and relationships. Her significant concern are about correlating and weaving narratives from her native experiences whilst mapping the esoteric and social relationships of her origins and her new found home, environment and social surroundings. Her awareness towards her Chinese heritage continues to question her notion of 'home' and 'belonging' - 'here and there' and the 'in between'. The desire is to explore ideas and methodology of two extremities of the same continuum and simplicity in complexity that exist in her medium of choice.
About the community partner: The Margaret River Makers was born from a vision to support and encourage makers of any form. It is a collective of emerging and professional dreamers that aim to contribute to their local community by pushing and supporting the individual abilities of their makers. Based at the Space in Margaret River, the studio offers pottery, film photography darkroom, sculpture, painting and printmaking facilities. Outside the studio it is fortunate to collaborate with local art organisations, The Farm, and Arts Margaret River.
